CHORUS

Directed by Mrs. Julia Edwards, Chorus is a year-long commitment involving group concerts and performances. Participation in periodic public performances is required and a large portion of the class grade; participation in area festivals is encouraged. This course focuses on performance of all kinds of music. Students in Chorus work on music reading skills, healthy vocal production, and musicianship. As Chorus is an ensemble, all students in Chorus are expected to participate fully in every rehearsal. Chorus members are also eligible to participate in area festivals, to join specialty ensembles and to audition for the MMEA District and State Festivals.

Chorus is a class during the academic day at PRHS and students who participate earn 1 VPA credit.

Chorus Norms
PRHS Chorus students singing with our guest conductor, Ms. Rineke Viljoen of the North West Youth Choir in Potchefstroom, South Africa. Students had a 2-hour workshop with Ms. Viljoen on March 6, where she taught them two songs from South Africa in two different languages -- Zulu and Sesotho. The students learned these pieces quickly! This video is of "Ukuthula," a Zulu prayer for peace, and is the result of that short time together. Thank you, Ms. Viljoen, for sharing your time, talents, and knowledge with us! Safe travels back to South Africa!
